Enfamil Gentlease Lipil Ready To Feed

throws up every meal..? my 3 month old throws up after every bottle. i feed him 5 oz every 3 hrs. but if he goes longer ill give him 6. he was born 8.4 & drank 2 1/2 oz coming home from the hospital. i cant possibly be over feeding him cuz he cries & cries until i give him more & he'll go for the bottle all crazy. i was giving him enfamil lipil (concentrated) at first then changed it to enfamil gentlease for gas problems, (it only came in powder) he threw that formula up insanly it was like half the bottle! at that time he only drank 4 oz. the doctor said it was maybe becuz it was too thin so i switched him back to lipil he was good at first, then started throwing up alot again! so the doctor has suggested the enfamil a.r. ive been doing that for about a week i only had a couple spit ups but thats normal, what he was doing before wasnt. then just yesterday i bought the a.r. ready to use can & for the first time he threw up again. he threw up maybe 2 out of 3 bottles. now i dont know am i worrying for no reason? could it be that ive changed his formulas soo much? 1 month was the gentlease 2 i went bak to lipil & 3 1/2 trying a.r. anybody know hat could be wrong??

1982 replied: "My baby is 2 months old now & we went through the same thing when he was a month old. I found out that I wasn't sterilizing his bottles correctly & I was using the wrong kind of bottles unfortunately. I got him a bunch of AVENT bottles & steam sterilizer. I sterilize all his bottles with every feed & the bottles are really good coz they reduce the amount of swallowed air in the stomach. It really did the trick for me.

Doesn't seem to be overfeeding coz he takes a little less than your baby (due to age).

Also try to burp him more often, during & after the feed. Keep him upright as much as possible (in an Infant seat) coz maybe he has GERD (Gastric Reflux) which is normal in young babies & will go away when his stomach sphincter muscles become stronger. Hope this helps!!"

she-skull replied: "He might be intolerant to milk. Maybe you should talk to your doctor about trying either a lactose free formula or even a soy based forumula."

Jenny R replied: "Changing his formula should not make him throw up like that. 5oz every 3 hours for a 3 month old is not too much formula. It sounds to me like your son may have acid reflux. There is a sphincter muscle at the top of the stomach that keeps food down. In reflux the muscle is not strong enough to keep the food down. It is very common in babies and can be treated fairly easily just until the muscle strengthens on it's own. My daughter had it and I went trough exactly what your explaining. All the while it was never the formula that was the problem it was her little belly.Good Luck"

Tracy S replied: "THIS IS HAPPENING TO ME RIGHT NOW!!! My baby will be 13 weeks on Monday. For a while now, she throws up a lot. I kept asking the dr about it but she kept blowing me off, saying "She's just eating too fast" She started on Enfamil Lipil with Iron & we switched her to Enfamil Gentlease because of the vomiting & gas. She still kept throwing up. I even added rice cereal to the formula like other people told me. Even 40 mins after eating, the whole bottle will come back up. Last week, it was so much worse than usual- it was even coming out her nose!! I took her immediately to another dr on Monday. She sent me to Childrens hospital foa GI test where she swallowed barium to see how her digestive tract was. They said that it was severe acid reflux & put her on a baby form of zantac. She also has to go back to the hospital for a milk scan on Thursday to see if she's lactose intolerant or has any milk allergies."

Similac Aliementum formula...Please help!!? My daughter is a month old and we have tried almost EVERY formula out there. We put her on Enfamil Lipil, that made her have really bad gas and she was really fussy...never seemed satisfied after a feeding. She also had red bumps all over her body and dry skin. Then we put her on similac advantage, same thing happened. Then I put her on the Similac soy milk and she had really bad diarhea. Then the Doc. put her on enfamil gentlease and she broke out in red bumps all over her body and she had really dry skin. She also started to get constipated.

So, then I put her on Enfamil Prosobee. That has worked great EXCEPT now she is spitting up a lot, and she has ALL the symtoms of acid reflex. I put her down after a feeding and she cries. She burst out crying out of nowhere. She seems annoyed and irritated when she's eating (she acts hungry but when I go to feed her, she doesn't want it). She cries when I hold her in a cradle position but not when I hold her up over my shoulder.

So, we have figured out that she is lactose-intolerant. She has a very senstive stomache. But now, I believe she has acid reflex. She has all the symptoms

I put her on the Similac Aliementum liquid (ready to eat) kind around noon today and it's now 9pm at night. She just ate 4 oz. and threw it ALL up EVERYWHERE!! Now she acts fine and happy but hungry again.

Do you think she threw up from the formula and it's not working for her or do you think I should give it more time?
im not bf, dont want to and dont need anyones input on that
Mommy to a 2 yr. old girl----Regardless of what you have to say, I AM a good mom and I do know what is best for MY DAUGHTER. I would like to see you try to deal with her screaming fits for hours upon end in pain and see what you would do!! I can't stand to see him in pain, it breaks my heart. She is allergic to the other stuff...why would I keep her on that for longer when she's allergic to it!!??
Everyone says that changing formulas is bad but at the hospital, after I first had her, the nurses told me that we could use different formulas and we didn't have to stick to just one. But, I guess she was wrong and I will give this Similac Aliementum 2 weeks to see improvement. I really hope it works
Because I don't really know for sure if she is lactose intolerant......
I wasn't trying to be mean, I'm sorry. I just assumed you were calling me a bad mom. Thank you for your help though, I will keep her on this and stop switching it. Im sorry again

Josephine replied: "formula itself is very harsh on babies digestive systems. have you tried nursing?"

D.d. :) replied: "ask a doctor and dont try anything else until u find out from a doctor what's wrong and what's best for her"

Mom of Ethan and Sophie replied: "I don't want to sound mean, but changing formula that often is really bad for the baby's digestive tract.... told to me by a pediatric gastroenterologist. Stop changing formulas and get a referral to a pediatric gastro as soon as you can. Pediatrician's are great about a lot of "general" things, but specialists are EXCELLENT about certain things. If she's had this much trouble, I really would take her to a specialist and get it figured out, no more guessing at what's wrong with her. I would call your ped. in the morning and tell them what's going on and see if they will get you into a specialist right away.

Good luck!"

Hannah's mommy replied: "First of all, Alimentum is not for Lactose intolerance, it is for milk PROTEIN sensitivity.

If you *think* she is lactose intolerant, she needs to be on lactose free formula.

She is probably having problems because you keep switching her formula's over and over again and not giving her tummy time to heal and adjust.

When my daughter went on Alimentum for protien sensitivity our GI doctor said it takes up to 2 weeks for their tummies to adjust and heal.

Are you under a doctor's advice for this or just doing this all on your own? You need to stick to a formula for a bit."

Mommy to a 2yr old replied: "Like I told you last time you asked this question before you switched again! You can't change her formula this many times in a month!! I feel like I have no choice but to be mean now. You are not letting her body adjust to each formula. You assume it's the formula that is not working when really she just can't adjust because you have switched her formula 5 times now in just one month! It's very hard on a newborns digestive system to keep switching formulas. Like I said before she needs at least 2 weeks to adjust to the new formula! Please stop switching her formula so much, you are just making her suffer more! If she's lactose intolerant then you need to put her on a lactose free formula and stick to it for 2 weeks and see if it helps. Alimentum is not going to help her if she's lactose intolerant.

Edit - I NEVER accused you of being a bad mother! It just doesn't make since to me why you would give her all these formulas when you know she's lactose intolerant, why don't you put her on a lactose free formula to help her? I have dealt with a baby who was in pain and would scream. My daughter had acid reflux when she was a baby and it was not pleasant at all. I know what you're going through with a screaming baby. Stop assuming!
I am done.. I tried helping and get accused of calling you a bad mother."

Monica H replied: "Should've gone with the Enfamil ;)
If it is indeed acid reflux, then she'll have problems digesting any type of formula. Stick w/ whichever formula has worked best for her thus far and try giving her only 2oz at a time, burp her, then 2oz until she's full.
I do agree that switching formulas so frequently isn't a good idea, and you should definitely seek help from a gastroenterologist if she continues not being able to hold anything down as it could effect her growth and make her dehydrated (which can be very serious in small babies).
If she is showing signs of dehydration give her a little pedialyte in a bottle (it will also be helpful to see if she spits this up also or if it's just the formula). Overall, get to a GOOD pediatrician asap! Good luck, I really do hope you get everything figured out!

**I'd stick with the soy. Aliementum is milk based so if she's lactose intolerant or has a milk allergy it can still be problematic for her.
There's no need for anyone on here to be "mean". I've dealt w/ a screaming child and felt like I was going to LOSE it. People ask questions because they need helpful advice and a bit of comforting, I'm sure if a pediatrician was at her disposal she would be asking one!"

Jess is a mommy replied: "mommy to a 2 year old is right, just stick with one for a while....or better yet BREASTFEED!"

Paityn Alexis is here! 6lbs 8oz replied: "It would take more then just one bottle for the formula to start working. I would try it for at least 24-48hours and i deff would only switch formulas if my doctor reccomended it. Switching to all these different formulas in such a short period of time could be hurting her belly etc. Are you burping her after every ounce??? Maybe try some gas drops as well...alot of babies get gas. If all else fails she may very well have reflux...my first child did and had to be put on zantac. I also was told by my doctor to add a tad bit of rice cereal to my sons bottles and i actually think thats what stopped him from throwing up..not the zantac. My son was also on similac isomil advance formula. Goodluck my father in law has a baby 3wks younger then my 11wk old and they are just went through everything your going through but their daughter is on the lactose-intolerant formula now and doing well."

photocritter replied: "*** My 10 week old baby boy had those same symptoms - we went through about 7 different formulas, Allimentum was the last resort - or so we thought. It turned out he had a milk protien allergy and we didn't know it. We didn't think a child could be so unhappy and fussy - he was put on Neocate formula (Rx only) and he is now a different child.

Please ask your doctor about a milk allergy. I wish we would have checked into it earlier, it would have saved our baby so much misery and pain.

Also, everyone says not to switch formula so much, you follow what you think is best, my doctor said, had we not switched our sons formula like we did, she would have not determined it was a milk allergy. ONLY YOU know your child. true, it takes about a week for a formula to get results, but with a milk allergy, you see a rejection in a matter of feedings, or atleast we did.

Also, try gripe water, found at most drug stores, while it won't cure him, it will ease him off some (or it did mine)

Please call your doctor tomorrow.

Best of luck!"

Erin P replied: "My son is six weeks old and has mild acid reflux. He started out on Similac Advance, then we tried Similac isomil (HORRIBLE poop and gas!), then back to the advance. He was also spitting up regularly. He is now on Good Start Gentle Plus and the spit up has reduced considerably and his gas is a lot milder than it was.

When we feed him we sit him as upright as possible, burp him after every ounce (he's up to 4), then sit him upright for 20-30 min. after he finishes the bottle. This seems like a lot of work, but it has cut down on the spit up. If he starts the spit up and gassiness again, I want to try the alimentum."

4month old not taking any milk other than nutramigen..? My daughter is 4 months and 1 week old..she was on nutramigen only ..earlier she was colicky and had reflux problem..not she is perfectly ok a happy child her reflux is also ok....consulting doctor we tried to shift her to other formula..today first time i tried giving her gentlease, she did not like the taste and took around 45 mins to drink 4 ounce..and after that she was ok..she slept 2 hrs..spitted only little and then after 4 hrs when i tried feeding her again..she did not take ...she is not ready to suck ..as soon as i gave nutramigen she drank.....in next feeding i tried giving her 1 ounce of Enfamil lipil..just to see if she likes the tase of that..but no..she was just not ready to suck...she cries..i had to give her nutramigen only after 4hrs again...
i am worried will she not ever take any other formula..? nutramigen is already so fine..i don;t wnat her to be sensitive,,and it is exp also....is there any idea that i can make her drink other formula...?
everyone thanks for the answers..but in response to those who said that stick to nutramigen...actuaaly she is absolutely ok no more fussy child or gassy..no more reflux....so i don't think there is any need to stick to nutramigen..even the doctor said a go ahead for change of formula.
Moreover one feed she managed to drink 3.5 ounce of different formula and she digested it quite well...no spiiting..so she can take other formula only that she is not liking the taste.

yesyesurugly replied: "Ok stop listen to her cues she doesnt like anything else, ur not making her sensitive my daughter was also on nutramigen and she turned out ok. please listen to ur baby, give her nutramigen dont listen to others telling u that ur making her pickly... give her what works for her what she is willing to take. u so dont want to have otherproblems if u keep on switching it like u do. stick to the one that works her digestive system is not going to be good if u keep on switching it around. STICK TO NUTRAMIGEN!!"

spottedtan5 replied: "She don't like the new taste, Mama.

Call your doctor and ask if you can mix the two types of formula safely. First do like 3 oz of the nutramigen mixed with the other, then when she's used to it gradually add more until you have her switched over completely.

Only do this with your doctor's ok!"

omg!twins!1 replied: "Try mixing her preferred formula with the one you want to switch to. My son was only on breast milk and when I returned to work we needed an alternative. He refused to eat. I gradually switched him by using first 3 oz of breast milk mixed with 1 oz of formula. Then after 3-4 days, increased the formula to half and half, until gradually over a month he would then take formula alone. Try this for your little one and be patient. It will work over time. Good luck!!"

sc1120 replied: "If your daughter needs the Nutraminigen, keep her on it! If she is ready to come off it, try this:
Day one - two - each bottle contains 3oz nutra. and one ounce Lipil.

Days 2-4 2 oz nutra, 2 oz Lipil per bottle

days 5-6 - 3 oz Lipil, 1 oz nutra.

By one week you have gradually moved her over so her tastes could adjust. You can lengthen or shorten these times however you want."

kim s replied: "My son was on Nutramingen and he did not get off it until he was closer to a year, it was the only thing his stomach could tolerate , I know it's expensive, but you gotta do what's necessary."

Enfamil Gentlease Lipil Formula

Am feeding Enfamil Gentlease Lipil formula and my baby's skin is way greasy? Does anyone else have this problem? She seems to have really oily skin especially at night. She was previously on Similac Advanced till my food subsidary program went with the Enfamil. She likes eating it but I have noticed a filmy residue on the bottle after she drinks. Its greasy and nasty and now her skin gets oily and shes gotten some blemishes on her nose. Is this from the formula or is it something else?
will of course talk to the Ped but just wanted to here some testimonials on this formula

Aja H replied: "That's a good question to ask the ped. If you see a film on the bottle, it's possible what you are seeing on baby is something from the formula. I've never heard of a greasy baby, but that doesn't sound good. About the blemishes, if it's baby acne, just leave it alone, it will go away on its own."

weezy07 replied: "I am not sure but I dont think it is from the formula because that is what my daughter is on and this is not happening to her and my friends kids also are on the gentlease and they are fine also. I would take her to the doctor and see what they say because it could be from something else"

ladybug replied: "Did you just recently make the switch? If so, I would think that her body is just adjusting to the new formula.
We started our daughter on the Enfamil and it just seemed to upset her tummy... we have since been using the Similac and she is doing great. I would think its just from making the switch and her little body just needs time to adjust.

Good luck."

Shaynell R replied: "I'm using the sasme formula and haven't noticed any such thing. My baby seems to enjoy the formula just fine and I haven't had any problems with it at all. However, when it waas offered to me, I was told that it's not right for all baby's. I would definately speak with your pediatrician and Enfamil does offer other types of formula, consider switching to one of those."

Is Enfamil Gentlease Lipil formula available in Australia? I am about to head out there for 2 weeks and I was wondering if I should pack it or if I can buy it.

proud mamma replied: "I'd pack it. Even if it is available, there nutrition standards may not be the same as the US. So it may not be packaged the same."

newmommyy322 replied: "probably, but if not, it's okay to switch formulas.. they all basically have the same stuff, they have to be approved by the FDA.. some just have tweaks to them. But i use it also, and im pissed they don't have it in ready to feed!!! But i would pack in just in case, i'm not sure how much of it you can pack tho, the airline people are so anal about what you bring on the plane... but good luck"

Patty R replied: "I use this formula to. You can always call that number on the back of the can and ask them. They are exetremely helpful. I thinkacking a few cans would be wise though."

i just changed my babies formula from enfamil lipil to enfamil gentlease? and before his poop was yellow and now with the new formula its green is this normal?

newmomma replied: "It's normal when you're switching formulas. I've had to switch several times. It is normal as long as it's not red or any other strange color. It could be a permanent change. If you're worried, call your pedi."

Generic formula for Enfamil Gentlease Lipil? My daughter has been drinking Enfamil Gentlease and I found out today that the WIC here does not offer that formula. So we will have to buy it out of pocket. Does anyone know if there is a less expensive brand that might work for her. She has a sensitive belly. Thanks

mandistar102 replied: "My friends daughter was on WIC and she had to have a special kind of formula because of allergies and she was sensitive to regular formula too and she got special permission somehow to get it on WIC, so I'd talk to your WIC person about it. I think though that the Walmart Parents Choice brand has a gentle formula now too and it's about $10 cheaper I think. Just a suggestion."

heather h replied: "If your daughter has a sensitive stomach then have your doctor write a letter for WIC ( they have a form alreayd made for this, Ive used it ) requesting that type of formula because your child has a sensitive stomach, then you will get it for free from WIC. I had to do that for 2 months my daughter was on similac advanced ( 25 $$$ per can )"

tinaluvsglass replied: "well, where we live in texas, there is a generic substitute made by HEB.go to your grocer and request it(a less expensive substitue)"

katheek77 replied: "http://www.brightbeginnings.com/products/gentle-baby-formula.asp

They don't sell it on their online store...sorry. But I know Eckerd Drugs carries it.

It's about 25 dollars for a 25oz can...is that good?"

Can I switch from enfamil gentlease to enfamil lactofree lipil? shes currently on enfamil gentlease. my baby after every feeding she gets many many gasses and cries a lot. she burps many times too and i give her the Mylicon drops to help but its useless. can she be lactose intolerant. should i try enfamil lactofree lipil formula.

mushmarllows replied: "She may be allergic, lactose intolerance can cause gas. I would talk to your doctor about a switch and see which one he thinks is best!"

Does Similac make a similar formula to Enfamil Gentlease? My 7 week old daughter has been on the Enfamil Gentlease formula & doing fine. She spits up though. Previously, we tried Enfamil Lipil & Enfamil AR but those didn't agree with her. With those two formulas, there would be days where she'd be fine, then there were days where she'd throw up everything she ate. I don't believe she's lactose intolerant because like I said, there were time where she was fine. I would think that there would be immediate & constant signs of outbreak or other problems. However, I was told Enfamil Gentlease would be good on her stomach...& it has been. WIC just switched to Similac so now I'm confused as to which formula would be suitable for my baby. They offer Similac Advance (which is what I was issued) & Similac Sensitive. Which is more compatible with the Enfamil Gentlease?

Emma's Mommy replied: "It's compared to Similac Sensitive but I don't think it's anything like Gentlease. It's lactose free and designed for babies with "fussiness and gas" like the Gentlease but in my opinion it's more comparable to the LactoFree Enfamil.

If she does better on the Gentlease just ask your doctor for a prescription for it and WIC will keep you with Gentlease."

mummiefroggie replied: "have you tried the enfimal a+ thickend, it works grate for spit up and fusseynes and gas. it also fills the baby better and i found my daughter slept through the night quicker too. it's about 20 to 24 $ for a larger can of powder"

♥ LovingMyLittle1 replied: "Similac Sensitive is kind of like Gentlease.. I'm surprised your WIC office gives Sensitive.. i know alot of babies who couldn't get the right formula through WIC..

What i do know, is that WIC will give you Enfamil Nutramigen, if your baby does better with Enfamil products than Similac ( i know mine did!!! ) It's a hypoallegenic formula, so instead of giving out Gentlease they skip a step and just give you Nutramigen.. no milk or soy protein, so no way your baby can be fussy..

So you could try that one for a few months, and switch to a milk-based such as regular similac.. ( Since they won't give regular Enfamil Lipil )

So try the Sensitive kind first from similac.. if your baby doesn't agree with it.. DEFENATELY ask for Nutramigen.."

what formula is better enfamil gentlease or enfamil lipil? when my baby was born i was giving him breast milk and enfamil lipil he was very constipated so i stopped breastfeeding and i changed to gentlease he is 4 months now going to 5 and he is ok now but he throws up the milk ALOT, just yesterday i gave him lipil and he doesnt throw it up and he seems to get more full with it. Im scared though what if he gets constipated again.
oh yeah and im feeding him gerbers and juices so i want to know if he will get constipated if i give him lipil again.

chrisa7584 replied: "you should have stuck with breastfeeding.

but since it's probably too late to pick that up again, what I suggest is consulting your doctor before changing your baby's formula again. I'd rather trust a trained medical professional that hearsay off Yahoo Answers.

It's good that you're concerned about the constipation because that can be a very serious thing for babies if left untreated. Talk with your baby's doctor and together you can make a decision that's right for you and your baby.

Good luck."

boysrustimes3 replied: "Definitely talk to your pediatrician. I tried four Enfamil formulas and had various problems with all of them from constipation to diarrhea. We ended up switching to Nestle Good Start and have never looked back. Every baby is different though."

morati m replied: "i am going through the same conflict with my self and i dont know what to do.

i guess we have to wait and take everything as it comes and take from there."

~Austins Mommy~ replied: "When my son was born i too had to stop breast feeding for certain reasons. I gave him Enfamil lipil and that made him very gassy and he was spitting up. I thought it was colic because he was so fussy, but i learned that he is actually Lactose and tolerent. He was put on Enfamil Lactofree and it worked wonders. He became less fussy and the gas went away after about a week."

Switching formulas--Enfamil Lipil to Enfamil Gentlease? Has anyone switched their baby's formula from Enfamil Lipil to Enfamil Gentlease? If so, what were the results?? Did baby poop more often since it's supposed to be easier to digest? Did the consistancy of the stools change? Did it really help with gas?? Also, the Enfamil website says that Gentlease has 1/5 the amount of dairy that Lipil does. Could this cause any issues in the present or the future? Like lactose-intolerance or anything like that? Thanks for your help!!

В»-(ВЇ`vВґВЇ)-В» РјaСЏРє's П‰ifee в™Ў replied: "I used Enfamil Gentle Ease for my son because the proteins are partially broken down for easier digestion; it's easier on the baby's tummy.

He's never been constipated and he's never had any problems with Dairy."

I my husbands cousin is the one who told me about it because had to put her son on it and it worked for them both. Just try it and see that is all you can do."

formula question about enfamil gentlease powder formula? I usually use the liquid concentrate formula of enfamil lipil. I recently switched to the powder enfamil gentlease. i made 24 ounce batch in a container when the container was empty i noticed little like black dots is that normal in a powder formula? The container was clean and i used within 24 hrs after making it.

jedh replied: "I use the gentlease and I make batches in a container...but have never noticed any black dots. Are you sure it isn't the foam after being mixed. I use a hand mixer. After I mix the formula, I put it straight in the bottles...have never kept it in the container. I use it only for mixing."

Enfamil Gentlease Lipil 8 Oz

Two month old eating 8 oz. every 3 hours...? Okay-

My two month old is eating eight ounces of Enfamil Gentlease Lipil every three hours. She goes through 15 cans (at least) of the powder formula every month! Plus, she's no where near on a schedule. She usually goes to bed at 4 am, gets up at 7 to eat then 10, then 1 and stays awake until about 2:30, goes back to sleep and gets up at 4pm, and alternates between cat naps (30 minutes to an hour) and awake time until she finally goes to bed again at 3 or 4 in the morning. I'm concerned- the schedule she's gotten herself in to is really hard on all of us, plus she's eating more than the average eight week old infant. Should I start cereal? Or perhaps bananas (First Foods, of course- not real banannas...)?

Jessica replied: "Maybe she's just not getting enough to eat at a given time. Don't take my word for it, but maybe start her on cereal. I know babies that have started eating cereal almost immediately after coming home from the hospital because they're so hungry!"

brownbug78 replied: "YOu need to speak to your health visitor about the amount she's eating and how often. WIth regards to the routine, you shuold try ditinguishing between day and night for her. If she's going to bed after every feed, then she'll never learn when "awake" time is and when "Sleep" time is.

Our son is 11 wks, and we always put him in day clothes when he gets up in the morning, and all day time naps are in his days clothes in his cot with the curtains open. When it's bed time, he goes into his jammies, all the lights get dimmed, my husband and I talk softer. He now sleep 7pm till 7am (waking twice for feeds), and has 3-4 short naps during the day."

aamna n replied: "starting any foods is way too early at her age. Cereals before 3 months of age increases baby's risk for type I diabetes. I would just stick with the formula, giving her whenever she demands it. Some babies are just hungrier than others."

RileysMom♥ replied: "no, its way too early for cereal, you could damage your babies digestive system because it isnt prepared for anything other than milk. You should talk to your doctor about this, i dont know about formula as i breastfeed, my baby is 3 months old and has never had problems."

Daisyhill replied: "She is far too little for cereal or anything solid....her tummy does not have the enzymes to break it down and it could give her allergies or intolerances later on...or damage her stomach lining.

To be honest, she sounds like my baby at that age...I was so shocked that she wanted to feed so often and the formula cost us a fortune. What I did about the constant waking up, was to give her a bath and put her in bed in a dark room, at 6.30pm or as near as that to her last feed that you can get....then leave her...mine went to sleep for longer because of the dark and the quiet...when she woke up for more food I just went in to the dark room and fed her there without really talking to her and then once winded, I put her back in bed....mine really took to it after a while....I reccomend it...they dont know it's nighttime till you tell them it is."

throws up every meal..? my 3 month old throws up after every bottle. i feed him 5 oz every 3 hrs. but if he goes longer ill give him 6. he was born 8.4 & drank 2 1/2 oz coming home from the hospital. i cant possibly be over feeding him cuz he cries & cries until i give him more & he'll go for the bottle all crazy. i was giving him enfamil lipil (concentrated) at first then changed it to enfamil gentlease for gas problems, (it only came in powder) he threw that formula up insanly it was like half the bottle! at that time he only drank 4 oz. the doctor said it was maybe becuz it was too thin so i switched him back to lipil he was good at first, then started throwing up alot again! so the doctor has suggested the enfamil a.r. ive been doing that for about a week i only had a couple spit ups but thats normal, what he was doing before wasnt. then just yesterday i bought the a.r. ready to use can & for the first time he threw up again. he threw up maybe 2 out of 3 bottles. now i dont know am i worrying for no reason? could it be that ive changed his formulas soo much?

She sent me to Childrens hospital for a GI test where she swallowed barium to see how her digestive tract was. They said that it was severe acid reflux & put her on a baby form of zantac. She also has to go back to the hospital for a milk scan on Thursday to see if she's lactose intolerant or has any milk allergies."

I month old question? i had a baby on march 29th weighing 8 lb 3 oz. she left the hospital at 7 lb 15 oz 2 days later..... on 4/13 she had a checkup and was 8 lb 4 oz. yesterday on her 1 month bday i weighed her and she was 8.8 lbs. this past week she has been complaining every night from 8pm-12am until she falls asleep. her tummy hurts and when i make her legs go back and forth she quiets down, and has lots of gas. in the hospital she was on enfamil lipil (gold label) and then shortly after i put her on gentlease (purple label) when her fussiness and gas started i switched her to lactofree, and i also got her mylicon drops. my question is, isnt her weight gain slow?? shouldnt she be around 9 1/2 lbs?? is this due to her formula and stomach issues?? what formula should i stick to? i am on wic, so i need enfamil....speaking of, lactofree is getting discontinued, so im gonna have to switch to something else in about a week, but she does seem better on the lactofree and the mylicon. what should i switch to? i called the doctor, and im waiting for a call back....please help with your suggestions on her weight, stomach issues, and formula!

(this is my 2nd. my first was good on gentlease, and grew fast...infact, shes 23 months tomorrow and is in size 4)

My daughter had some trouble with her formula too, she spit up a lot and it caused her to gain weight slower too. Being on WIC though you will have to try hard to get them to change it, they can be assholes when it comes to change, we were on it too and we had to get a doctor note before they changed. Good luck."

Also try adding one tablespoon of rice cereal per 2 ounces of formula. My son will be 2 and June and is in great health now."

sorry she was 7 15 two days old. then at 4/13 she had another appt and was 8 4

mystic_eye_cda replied: "Why didn't she leave the hospital until she was over two weeks old?

That is low weight gain

=========
Edited to add:

Sorry you could use some sentences/capitals.

She's gained an average of 2.25 oz per week which is considered low.

You shouldn't use lactose free formula as true lactose intolerance is incredibly rare but secondary lactose intolerance caused by allergies or disease is common. If you remove the lactose without fixing the underlying cause all you do is mask a symptom. You should be working with an allergist at this point/"

Learning as I go! replied: "Sounds like you are switching the formula too much. I would always check with your dr. before changing formula. It also sounds like she may have colic."

Pippin replied: "Yes, her weight gain is very low. A month old baby 'should be' at least 8 ounces over birthweight, and docs like to see at least a pound or two over birthweight. So yes, she should be around 9- 9 1/2 pounds.

(The expected pattern is that baby will lose wieght at first, get back to birthweight by 2 weeks, and then average 2 pounds a month for the next 4-6 months. Minimum expected gain is a pound a month.)

I would stop switching formulas so much and talk to the doctor about her gas and pain, and her poor weight gain. How much is she eating? How often? Is she spitting up a lot? Is it possible to relacate and breastfeed? (Babies are never allergic to breastmilk.)"

Callypso replied: "Good Start always says that they have easy to digest formula, maybe look into buying that kind? They guarantee gentleness, so it might be worth a try. She was always vomiting tho and they thought she was colicy..but turns out she has reflux. One technique you could try which she swore by was putting her face down across your knees and letting her belly hang..I guess it relieves pressure on their belly or something?!? Worth a shot right?!"

Does my 1 month old eat too much? She eats about 3-4 oz every 2 hours or so. Shes only 8 lbs.. she was born 6lbs 8oz. Everywhere i read says they wont overeat but i feel like shes eating more than she should. She usually spits up after every feeding but not awhole lot and shes also very gassy. shes on Enfamil Lipil with Iron but my doc suggested i switch her to Gentlease, which im going to do even though its expensive.. but what will help her want to eat less often? Im afraid to give her more than 4 oz at one feeding.. what do i do??

sweetiepie1567 replied: "no not realy she is fine"

Alane replied: "Ask her pediatrician if you're worried, but in general there is nothing wrong with a fat baby. Don't hold her back from eating, she'll quit when she's full."

JOEYSMOM2 replied: "If she will eat it.. feed it to her... she will puke it up if it's too much!

Try some of that baby oatmeal in her milk."

paganmom replied: "Babies know when they are hungry, if she is full she will let you know. Trust her to tell you when she's done.
Make sure you are burping her every 1-2 ounces...it may stop the spit up."

и–„жљ—гЃ„ replied: "Yes, it depends on how old the baby is. A baby's tummy is the size of a nut."

kiwi replied: "Switch her to the new formula. And relax about it all. She will be fine, as long as you are calm."

drjanders replied: "no that is completely normal... babies that young cant eat too much. if they do they usually spit up the excess.

every baby is different. just give him/her what he/she wants."

sandy replied: "don't give more than 4, and what she is eating right know is just the right amount, be sure to burp her when she's finish eating"

Josh D replied: "YES SHE EATS TOO MUCH SHE IS GOIN TO BE A FATTY FATT FATT WEN SHE GRWS UP"

bigbootyhootchie replied: "Babies do adjust their feedings according to their own needs. Sometimes, they simply want the comfort of you holding them. But if her bowel movements are regular and diaper changings are normal, you have nothing to worry about.
I have had 8 kids and none of them ate less than 4 oz after they were about a week old."

fdragoneyesonme replied: "yes babies will only eat what they need for their body. my guess is that the formula is not one that provides what she needs. try the new formula and if she still is eating more then you think is right talk to her doctor again. my son ate 3-4 Oz every 3 hours until we found out that his system was not handeling the formula. if you need mental support feel free to email me.. I have two boys both are older so I may just have a few tips for you. "

jack_dot_com replied: "buy the best formula and let your baby eat as much as she wants. she a growing little baby."

Joy R replied: "You are not feeding her too much. Babies really do know how much they need and you are blessed yours is healthy enough to ask for it. I would also take your Dr's advice on switching formula's to ease up on the spitting up. Good luck to you and enjoy your baby girl."

gingerdaisy43 replied: "No, no, my friend, please get over that idea. She has a LOT of growing and brain development to do, even if she's a chub she will thin out again after the first year. If she doesn't get what she needs that first year, she will never be all that she can be. This goes for attention and love as well as food!

Perhaps if you gave her more at a feeding she would go more than two hours. Go slowly, give her lots of burp opportunities. I hope the new formila works better for her."

Melinda W replied: "okay first of all it is true that you cannot over feed your child. but i would put her on simalic and get it with the iron still. have your doctor check you child for acid reflex. that could be the problem. and also when they have the trouble of gases they tend to eat more because it gives them a temporally gives them relief so get some gas relief med."

mschvs_65 replied: "Your one month old is not eating too much. This is comletely normal. I breast fed all three of mine for anywhere from 6 to 12 months, so there is no way to measure ounces, but they often fed every two hours, especially so young. If you think your little one is gaining to fast, discuss it with your pediatrician. If could be she is just wanting to suckle. If she gets upset at a pacifier, then she is truly hungry. Many babies do not do well with formula. You may have to try several before you find one she can tolerate. There is nothing wrong with feeding every two hours, especially on such a small amount of formula. You may have to increase the ounces at each feeding to see if it helps, especially so you can get some sleep! Babies are not like adults. They will quit when they are full. Just make sure you burp her good and let it settle a bit about half way through a larger feeding. That will give her tummy a little time to adjust and get rid of some gas so she can finish comfortably. Sometimes giving them a little water between feedings is ok too."

Tonya D replied: "i dont think shes eating too much. thats about how much my son ate at that age also. remember they are gaining weight and they need the extra fat to keep warm. the spitting up is normal, completly normal, most babies do that after a feeding, especially if you are burping after every feeding which you should be doing. switching to the gentlease is a very good idea, yes it is expensive but this is your child and you want her to eat. the gassy you could give her some gas drops that you find next to the infants motrin or in the baby medicine isle. go ahead and make a 6 oz bottle, and burp her after every 2 ounces of formula, and whatever she doesnt finish store in the refigerator for later."

KareBear replied: "You have a growning child. She needs her nutrition. If you are breast feeding her, then keep on giving as much as she wants. Mother's milk is loaded with everything a developing baby needs. If you are formula feeding then you may want to keep an eye on how much she eats. Formula is a substitute. It doesn't contain all the minerals, vitamin and antioxident that she needs. Baby weren't meant to feed off formula, so there is a lot of stuff in it that they won't be able to metabolize as nutrition. It will get stored away as fat.

Have no fear and you'll be a great mom :)"

jean t replied: "No she isn't eating to much.I would try burping her more during her feedings.Since she is small she will need to eat everytwo hours.Don't put cereal in her milk blottle that will add calories and food that she doesn't need yet. When you start cereal at about 6 months it is to help her get off the bottle so do it with a spoon so she will learn to use a spoon.Yes it will be messy but cute.
My children are in there 40's, they grow up so fast.So when you start to lay her down take an extra five minutes to hold her.Just enjoy and trust your own judgement. You will have a bond with her that no on can take away."

ROBERT J replied: "babys are like us we like to eat so do they these babys now dont want just milk put a tea spoon of cereal in her bottle in the morning and before bed that will hold her can milk fill you up. your baby spits up after every feeding because infamil is a very gassy milk; that is cheap why do you think when people have babys they put them on that milk put your baby on similac that is a good milk it is so good wic wants you to get a pracription from your doctor they dont want to spend all that money and please dont listen to the doctors when they tell you not to give the baby any water they need that. you can also put some kerupt serupt in her water and in her milk one tea spoon in every bottle it is good and it keeps there bowel move ment steddy and stops all that pitting up after feeding i dont now if i spelt that surupt right but ask someone in pathmark they will let you now if you dont you think pitting up is a problem just drinking milk no water makes them constipatted that when you begin to have problems trust meeeeeeeeeeee."

Suepee replied: "No more than 4 ounces at a feeding and no more often than every 2 hours. It would be good if you could get her to a 3 hour schedule. Babies cry not always for hunger; but for needing a dry, clean diaper; for needing to burp; for needing some attention--just to be held. Give her a pacifier--which is recommended by the American Pediatric Assoc as a means of preventing SIDS. And since she is spitting up after every feeding, she probably is getting too much.
According to WIC recommendations, you can increase the amount of milk to 6 ounces once she is 4 months old. She shouldn't have solid foods--even cereal--until she is 6 months old. Then start with rice cereal spoon fed; then vegetables, then fruits and then meats. Start one new food each week so that she can get used to it before trying another one. At first she may not like the taste or consistency but keep trying. And with one food each week, you can tell exactly which food she is reacting to if she has an allergic reaction."

Sheryl P replied: "all babies eat differently...you feed when they are hungry and they will quit whe they are full. for the gas mylicon works wonders."

Enfamil Gentlease Lipil Liquid

formula question about enfamil gentlease powder formula? I usually use the liquid concentrate formula of enfamil lipil. I recently switched to the powder enfamil gentlease. i made 24 ounce batch in a container when the container was empty i noticed little like black dots is that normal in a powder formula? The container was clean and i used within 24 hrs after making it.

jedh replied: "I use the gentlease and I make batches in a container...but have never noticed any black dots. Are you sure it isn't the foam after being mixed. I use a hand mixer. After I mix the formula, I put it straight in the bottles...have never kept it in the container. I use it only for mixing."

can i change my babys formula? He is on enfamil gentlease. And he's been on that for about 2 weeks before that he was on enfamil lipil, well since he's been on this new stuff he hasn't had any poo that is hard. Its very liquid and even smells awful! Can I switch back to what he had at first? He's 4 weeks old.

samuel031008 replied: "I would call your doctor, and ask him and tell him about the bowel movements. I had to switch my son's and had to do a half/half when doing so, for one week."

Katy M replied: "The gentlease is a formula that does produce loose bowel movements. You should slow change if you are going to make a change only making 1/2 oz changes at a time or you will have a sick baby. Vomiting is a frequent symptom that you are changing too quickly.
Did you have a specific reason that you changed his formula, if so take that into account and definitely talk the pediatrician about any changes in formula."

Makenzie's Mom replied: "Pretty much all formula is the same, I would say yea go ahead and switch back and see if that changes anything. If not then call the doctor. Good luck"

My 4 week old? I woke up this morning to the WORST diaper EVER.It was green liquid like and had little yellow curds and it was everywhere, it exploded out of his diaper, onto his stomach, and back! I had to bathe him to get it off.
He is mostly breastfed with an occasional few ounces of formula....a few days ago we bought a different kind of formula (went from enfamil lipil to enfamil gentlease) and he came down with thrush so he has had a little more formula to eat than I would like (my nipples are killing me!)

I don't drink milk ( too expensive) and I haven't eaten a lot of dairy since he was born.maybe a yogurt or two....

so why did he have this massive explosion of diarrhea?? You think it is the formula? should I stop it?

(we are going to the doctors in 2 hours for the thrush so I will def. be asking the doctor but was just wondering what other moms thought)

Thank you!
My nipples are sore from the thrush....breastfeeding was great until he got thrush but now it is painful for him to eat and he pulls my breast, I am pumping to avoid unecessary nipple damag

pebblespro replied: "It's probably just the transition of the different formula.. If you plan on continuing to breastfeed it is importand that you take your prenatal vitamin and eat properly.. Afterall what you eats DOES affect the health and nutrition of your baby. If you don't like/drink milk try making yourself some smoothies to get calcium IF you do not get enough calcium the baby will "leach" it out of anywhere he/she can get it and eventually it may lead to tooth loss or bone density issues.... I like to make smoothies w/ yogurt/milk Carnation Instant breakfast is really good too.... If your nipples are sore you may not be breastfeeding properly and may need the help of a lactation consultant/group... Most hospitals have support groups that meet during the day/evening.. Call and see where yours meets.. It's also good for getting out of the house... Good luck"

ricky replied: "welcome to the great world on poop dipper this will not be your first or last dipper like this one lol i think you need to pick what you are doing to feed this little one i don't think you should feed the baby both breast milk and formula you may make the baby have a lot of gas . if you pick breastfeeding you need to eat right and take your vitams hope the baby feels better soon"

Lacems replied: "It sounds like its the transition from one formula to another so I suggest getting the old one back. You should also check to see if theres a fever. Thanks for painting the real picture of a baby with the runs... you worded it perfectly lol and I now know what to look for when I have my little baby, hope your baby is healthy."

*emma* replied: "awwwwww!
it's okay!
my son has done many of many many many poopies like that! its kind of scary but funny at the same time!
dont worry there will be plenty more to come hehehe"

motochic467 replied: "I have never given any of my three children formula and they had diaper explosions just like that. I wouldn't worry about it. It's obviously normal."

glbenner replied: "Make sure that BOTH of you are treated for the thrush, Do not let them just give you ointment for your breasts, make sure you get antibiotics.

Okay now to the dipper issue- if you just changed the formula it is probably a reaction. Babies digestive systems are very sensitive. That is one of the many reasons that breastfeeding is best. It is the perfect food for babies, easy to digest and 100% of the nutrition that they need.

Speak to your doctor about the formula, but also be aware that babies do have explosions from time to time without reason"

Rockmum replied: "diaper explosions are totally normal, my babies did them daily till i introduced solids at 6 mths
breastfeeding does it, cos it comes out so easy, when your on formula totally it gets harder to poop, even constipated!"

amy w replied: "Well make sure your dr gives you something for the thrush otherwise you will keep passing it back tothe baby and ues it as long as the dr says even if it seems better the diarrhea is probably from the thrush. Make sure you wash everything really good after the baby eats.O yeah and get "soothies" from the drug store they may have them at wal mart they are a gel breast pad they are a god send it will really help with the sore nipples REALLY worth the money"

ChantelleWilliams replied: "It sounds just like this tummy is getting adjusted to the new formula, also the blow out diaper, we always had that until I started using the pampers swaddlers diapers. even the huggies diapers always leaked"

Does liquid formula satisfy babies hunger better than powder? I was using Enfamil Lipil with Iron in the concentrate when my baby's doctor said that she has acid reflux and put her on Zantac along with giving us samples of Enfamil Prosobee concentrate. Well she got horribly constipated with the Prosobee formula so we tried the Gentlease type but it is only available in powder. She seemed so hungry with that and was still spitting up quite a bit. So we tried the A.R. formula and she is still quite hungry. Both the Gentlease and A.R. is in powder because that is what WIC will cover. Should I switch back to the regular Enfamil Lipil with Iron concentrate as it seemed to fill her up better or is there another concentrate from Enfamil that I could try that will help? Please help me! I hate seeing my baby like this and want her to be happy when she feeds! Thank you!

Ryan's mom replied: "Have you tried soy formula? My son had severe acid reflux due to being a preemie. He did best with the soy. He used to projectile vomit 2-3 times a day. About 3 days after switching to soy he rarely spit up at all."

Ree replied: "One: liquid ready to feed works best for reflux babies because it is thicker. We can not use powder at all in any of the brands, it makes the refluxing worse.

Two: If the pediatrician writes medically required WIC in my state will give RTF(ready to feed). We get WIC as well.

I have heard lots of great stuff about AR but my pediatrician stands behind alimentum (which my reflux daughter loves) and nutramagin(which she wont drink!)

We are also on Zantac and it works for us, one other thing that is important with Refluxers, keep her elevated for at least 30 minutes after a feeding and burp alot. Like every ounce!

Good Luck!"

turklelove replied: "my baby uses similac alimentum. it is supposed to be very gentle and easily digested. it is marketed for babies with food allergies and collic. i havent noticed a difference in how satisfied my baby is between the ready made or the powder. i am on wic and they cover both types.
i have heard bad things about soy formula, id check it out first before using it."

Karo Syrup, Nutramigen, Spit uppy baby..HELP PLEASE!!!? My baby is a spitter upper!(She'll be 6 weeks on Monday) The pediatrician gave her liquid Zantac a couple weeks ago, didn't work..We just got an ultrasound done of her belly to look for that medical problem that requires surgery, she's fine..I'm breast feeding but had to start supplementing on formula because I can't produce enough to fit her feeding needs. She was on Enfamil Lipil and then switched to Gentlease..NOw the doc told me to put her on Nutramigen..She is STILL SPITTIng evrything up..Sometimes she doesn't at all-but most the time does..I will give her another week to get used to the Nutramigen-how much Karo Syrup can I put in there to make it taste better for her? And what else does Karo Syrup help with? Thanks for all answers!!

momtojullex replied: "You shouldn't be putting sugar in your baby's formula. It's not healthy.

Do you mind if I ask why you think you weren't making enough milk for her? I'm not being a breastfeeding nazi- I'm just trying to help you out on that front. I suspect that you might have been making enough, but you got the thought in your head that it's possible you weren't making enough and you believed it. If you were nursing on demand, you were making enough milk."

Melissa S replied: "I wouldn't add any karo syrup, they are finding it has some ill effects. I took my son to the chiropractor for acid reflux, it took a few visits but it worked. You can also see if the doctor will prescribe Prevacid instead of Zantac. I am allergic to it so my doctor didn't want to chance my son being allergic too and the Zantac didn't work well for us either.
"

Tylers mom replied: "My son started spitting up when he was about 6 wks old. He was also put on meds and he still spits up. The meds will not help with that. The valve to a baby's stomach is weak and this is why some will come back up through it. The meds help control the acid in baby's stomach so it doesn't hurt as much when they do spit. Our ped told us if he's a spitter then he can and probably will do so until he's about a year old. If your baby doesn't seem uncomfortable when feeding or spitting then I suspect everything is good.
I've never heard of putting anything in the formula to make it taste better. The ped put us on Alimentum (same family as Nutramigen) and said it will probably taste terrible for him but if he's hungry he'll eat it. And he does. It's tempting to want to find something that we think will taste better for them but realistically at this age they don't have much to compare to and they'll eat it when they are hungry. You didn't mention if the Karo was suggested by your doc or not but I'd only go with that on the advice of the doctor.
good luck! i know exactly the challenge you are going through:) everything is a stage right now and will get better."

Enfamil Gentlease Lipil Ingredients

anyone use nestle good start supreme formula? My little one is 12 weeks old - gets breast milk but does get two formula bottles a day...we've been using enfamil lipil but it doesn't seem to agree very well (very gassy, lots of spit-up, etc). the enfamil gentlease shows the top ingredient as corn syrup so thought I'd try nestle good start? any thoughts on it and its "comfort proteins"?

Melyssa replied: "My son hated it. It made him really gassy and he would spit up a lot. I switched him to similac advance and he was fine. ( he was on similac before but I switched because others told me good start was better.. well, didnt work for him) and my third I started on similac right away and she never had any problems with it"

ChristyP replied: "I tried the nestle and it was fine. you may also want to try enfamil AR. You can read about it on their website. That is how I found it when my lil guy was having problems."

Baby Jace is here! Born Nov21st replied: "I agree with melyssa, my son takes simalac advance and is never gassy (knock wood) and takes the food down quite well. there is no corn syrup in it either"

What type of infant formula is easy on the belly but doesn't contain sugar? I am breast feeding my 3 month old, but in the last few weeks I started to supplement 1-2 bottles of formula per day since I am back to work. It became too much to pump, store, and breastfeed. So I have gone from Enfamil Lipil (too harsh on his belly, was fussy and gassy) to Enfamil Gentlease (still a bit fussy and he didnt like it much) to now Similac Sensitive. Well, the Similac Sensitive seems to be doing great on his stomach, and he absolutely loves it and takes the whole bottle. The problem is, I noticed since I started giving it to him he will no longer nap (which is unusual for him). So I checked and the top two ingredients are corn syrup and sugar! So, now I am back out there searching... any ideas? I will not give him soy. Too much sugar in that, and I have also researched soy and it is too risky, I dont like the idea.

Anonymous replied: "Try Nestle Good Start w/ Natural cultures. I just looked at the ingredients and I don't see sugar. Also, it has partially broken down proteins that make it easy for babies to digest. My daughter loves it but every baby is different."

♥Kaitlin♥Due Oct.5 With A Boy!! replied: "I was going to say Similac Sensitive. I think once the baby adjusts to this formula it will not keep him awake. I wouldn't change the formula if he's doing so well with it unless you really have to. Keep him on it for awhile longer and see if he starts to settle down for naps soon. I'm sure he will."

cheryl.french replied: "I'm not sure what negative research you've read on soy but I wouldn't believe it personally. I have four kids that had to be on soy because all the other formulas upset their stomach. My three week old granddaughter is currently on soy (isomil). It is somethinghat seems to run in both sides of our family. I was more concerned with the fact that my baby needed to be able to hold down their formula and be comfortable. Happy baby equals happy parents.
All of my kids now drink regular milk--when they have it on cereal every now and then. All four are healthy and have no weight problems.
I know it's easy to get caught up in all the negative research in the media and on the net about just about everything these days. Your baby is a individual. What may not work for someone else may work for you. Take all this research with a grain of salt. Talk with your pediatrician about it and maybe that can help you decide.
Congratulations on your new little one!"

Is partially hydrolyzed and hydrogenated the same thing in Enfamil Formula? My doctor switched my formula to Enfamil Gentlease. I have been breast feeding, but have to supplement and when I do with lipil, she spits up ALOT. The switch seems to be better, but when I went to buy it in the store I read all the ingredients and it mentions hydrolyzed. Is this the same has hydrogenated which is led to cancer? I try not to eat many processed foods b/c of the link to hydrogenated processes, why would the formula be the same, is this a health risk to my baby. I have discontinued that formula till I hear further. Any links to websites would be apreaciated!
*Update* i contacted Enfamil and with a quick response time, here is what I now know and want to pass on.

Partially hydrolyzed means the proteins have been broken down.

Both GentleaseTM and Enfamil LIPIL(R) powders use the same sources of protein, nonfat milk and whey protein concentrate. Both products have the same 60:40 whey:casein ratio. The only difference is that the Gentlease proteins are slightly hydrolyzed or broken down. The declared protein level for Gentlease of 2.3 g/100 Cal is 0.2 g per 100 Cal higher than Enfamil LIPIL. This is essentially the same level of partially hydrolyzed protein Mead Johnson has successfully provided to some infants in Europe since about 1992.

The proteins in GentleaseTM LIPIL(R) are partially broken down. The proteins in Enfamil LIPIL(R) are intact, or whole. Neither Gentlease nor Enfamil LIPIL is intended for babies with allergies to milk protein or other food proteins. In contrast, the casein protein in Nutramigen(R)

keevelish replied: "All formula is a health risk to your baby. Nothing compares to your milk.

Formula is a manufactured, overly-processed food that is based from the milk of another species. You can't expect it to be as healthy as what you produce."

Poppy's Mumma *♥* replied: "My Daughter is on a fully hydrolysed milk with no milk proteins and no, this isn't the same as hydrogenated fats that are artery cloggers. I'm in the UK though so ingredients might be different and my Daughters milk is prescribed, not something you can buy off the shelf. If you are unsure, you should speak to your Doctor and query it if you aren't happy."

hstris replied: "Extensively hydrolyzed formula: In these formulas, the protein is broken down into smaller parts that are easier for your baby to digest than larger protein molecules. Your baby may need a hydrolyzed formula if he has allergies or trouble absorbing nutrients. The doctor may also suggest trying a hydrolyzed formula if your baby has colic."

Valerie replied: "Not at all related. Hydrolysis is a method of breaking down the proteins in a food to make them easier to digest. Hydrogenization is a method of adding hydrogen to a fat to convert them from unsaturated to saturated."

Enfamil Gentlease Lipil Powder

cheaper option Enfamil Gentlease Lipil for babies with fussiness or Gas. Milk Based Powder.? What would be a cheaper version of Enfamil Gentlease Lipil for babies with fussiness or Gas? Milk Based Powder. My son is using Enfamil Gentlease Lipil for babies with fussiness or Gas. Milk Based Powder right now but is expensive. What would you say is the same thing but cheaper?? I asked his doctor and she is just promoting the same one with no alternative. Please help!!

SeAtTleZmOstWaNTed replied: "Walgreens has its own brand and it smell and taste the same as Enfamil Gentlease plus on the jar is says Compare to Enfamil Gentlease and it costs only $13 for a 24oz jar and sometimes they even put them onsale for $4 a can."

everytime you go to the dr, get samples of it! 3 of the small sampl cans = 1 large can.

also, if you want to email your addie, i can mail you a couple coupon checks as we are going to start switching him over to milk soon

ETA: be careful on ebay! i got gentlease checks from someone on there and they were fake. also it doesnt always work out cheaper w/ formula b/c of shipping so just remember that."

mommy of boy and girl replied: "Wal-mart has one and it's called Parent's Choice Gentle formula. It has the same ingredients. The only difference is the consistency and color of the formula and of course, the price. I think Parent's Choice brand is about $12-13 give or take a few dollars. But hey, you save money in the long run. Rather than paying for 4 cans of Enfamil of about $25 a can which equals $100. You will pay $12 a can of parent's choice for 4 cans and only pay $48."

faithful wife replied: "ask your Dr for samples or email Enfamil for some. My son is on Nutramagin by Enfamil and they only do samples of that through Dr.'s offices. Enfamil told me to get samples from my Dr. And since not too many babies are on Nutramigen, my nurse was more than happy to give me samples whenever I requested them.

Doesn't really answer your question I guess, but maybe it will help anyhow! =)"

formula question about enfamil gentlease powder formula? I usually use the liquid concentrate formula of enfamil lipil. I recently switched to the powder enfamil gentlease. i made 24 ounce batch in a container when the container was empty i noticed little like black dots is that normal in a powder formula? The container was clean and i used within 24 hrs after making it.

jedh replied: "I use the gentlease and I make batches in a container...but have never noticed any black dots. Are you sure it isn't the foam after being mixed. I use a hand mixer. After I mix the formula, I put it straight in the bottles...have never kept it in the container. I use it only for mixing."

What kind of formula is this really? I got a $5.00 off coupon for 24-ounce Enfamil Gentlease Lipil powder infant formula

Is that like the regular formula or what is that soy or what? Im lost

Why is my 6 week old still so fussy and gassy on Enfamil Gentlease? She was constipated on Enfamil Lipil which made her so fussy all the time. The doctor switched her to enfamil Gentlease but it hasn't seemed to work. I'm noticing the same if not more gas with the new formula. She was also on concentrate before which in my opinion seems to taste better, but we are trying out the powder the dr. gave. What to do now?

memyselfand i replied: "OK try the enfamil nutramigin also remember that it takes a few days for the baby to adjust when changing formulas"

lagb1210 replied: "My son is the same way. I started him on enfamil lipil then the gentlease. He has been crying now for like a week straight. If he is not crying he is verry fussy. I dont want to change formulas without talking to his doctor first. mainly because formulas is very expensive, and I dont want to buy another can and find out he is still the same way. I have a doctors appointment tommarow so I will talk to his doctor about it.
Good luck. Give a call to his doctor to see what they have to say."

Mexicana replied: "What bottles are you using? We were using Enfamil Lipil, but that gave my son a lot of gas so we switched to Gentlease as well. He was still fussy and gassy so we switched from the Avent bottles to the Playtex Drop-Ins and that helped a lot! Good luck!"

Nicole C replied: "Hmm, this is an interesting question, as well as all the answers so far. See I put my son on Parents Choice- which is the generic brand of Enfamil. And he has some reflux issues, is gassy and quite fussy. So I put him on the gentlease too, and for awhile it seemed better- it helped with the spitting up, but not with the fussiness. I wonder if this is an Enfamil thing. I'm very tempted to go back to Goodstart which is what I used at first (I changed only because Parents choice is waaayy cheaper.) Anyways, just my thoughts."

♥ Mommy of 3 replied: "I went through formula hell with my son until he was 3 months old. Turned out to be acid reflux and not the formula... but we didn't know that so he went through many formulas- give it some time for him to adjust to the formula. Switch your bottles to Dr Browns. My baby get horrendous, painful gas from any other bottle. Some babies do better with the concentrate, you may want to use concentrate gentlease."

2 month old with bad gas. Should I switch back to Similac advance from enfamil lipil? I breastfeed, but have to supplement some. At first I was supplementing with similac advance and my baby was fine. I decided to try a sample of enfamil lipil, which is when the gassiness and constipation started. The gentlease did not help. Should I switch back to Similac advance or will it make it worse by switching again? I was using the ready to use with the similac and when switching to enfamil I used the powder. Would that have anything to do with it? What should I do? Should I just stick with the enfamil and wait for things to get better or should I try switching back?

ashley replied: "LOL BAD GAS HAHAHAHA BECAUSE U HAV TO SMELL IT HAHAHAHAHAHAHA"

banderson replied: "No harm in switching back if the gas is caused by what you are using now. Sounds to me like you are supplementing a lot, or it wouldnt be that big of an issue.

My daughter had a dairy sensitivity, so she couldnt have any formula with milk in it. There are several other formulas on the market that cater towards baby that have a hard time digesting them. There are soys and other types that are broken down into smaller "particles" to help."

tammy lou replied: "There is a baby tums (liquid drops) available any where. It is awsome. Whenever your baby shows signs of uncomfort give a few drops and watch the relief. I think its called Yummy Tummy.

What's your favorite powder formula for supplementing with while breastfeeding? I'm a first time mom who's exclusively pumping and feeding my 6 week old son breastmilk, but thrice I've had wonky days where my milk production was slightly off, and I had to supplement with a powder formula. My son tends to be gassy, so I chose Enfamil's Gentlease Lipil.

It smells slightly worse than most formulas I've smelled previously, but mixes nicely and he seems to tolerate it just fine. I'm just curious if anyone had a better suggestion as to what formula is great for the occasional supplement bottle. I know that technically they're all the same because they're required to be, but everyone has their own life experiences to draw from.

Thanks! :)

Jamie replied: "try enfamil soy formula it worked great for my son and less gas using it"

Liandrew00 replied: "If your baby is tolerating what your using then you're doing a great job. I started with Nestle Good Start, it's says it's easier to digest, and he seemed to like it. I hated pumping when I had to be away, so that's what he got, and he seems to not mind it."

smunfifa replied: "Hi! My daughter has been on Nestle Good Start since I was unable to breastfeed when she was 5 weeks old due to a bad infection. She is a big baby and seems happy with it, so I haven't switched."

Josh & Shorty replied: "The pediatrician told me that Enfamil, Similac, and Nestle are about the same as far as what is in them, but that baby's stomach does not tolorate switching around. She said that switching can cause gas, upset stomach, and crankyness.

I had to feed my baby formula for a week after we came home from the hospital because the vicoden they had given me for the c-section was getting thru my milk to the baby and making her lethargic. We ended up using Similac because that is what they gave her in the hospital. The only complaint I had about the Similac was that it seemed to make her a little constipated, but then again, they say that is normal for infants that are used to being breastfed and switch to formula."

What next? Baby is still spitting up..? Ok, first off here is a little history on my almost 3 month old daughter. she was born May 29th. When she was born she was put on Enfamil Lipil, at 1 week she was switched to Enfamil Gentlease which she was on until July 13th, and then Enfamil AR for 2 days, She was then switched to Enfamil Nutramigen a week later. Up until August 15th she was on Enfamil Nutramigen Powder. WIC has recently changed Nutramigen to the Concentrate rather than the powder. The first formula change at first was when she was born constipation and gasiness. Later excessive spitting up. Since she has been on the Nutramigen she also gets 2tbs of rice cereal in her bottles and .6ml (point 6ML) of Zantac twice a day. She weighs 13.5lbs and is 23 inches long. She is still spitting up, and I'm not talking about just a little either sometimes it's an ounce or more. She is still gaining weight though. I am just wondering if I need to take her back to the pediatrician again, she has Acid Reflux. I am not sure what else I can do to help the spitting up. Her sister was somewhat the same but she stop spitting up once she started eating cereal. Does anyone have any idea what else I can try to help the spitting? She does not go to the pediatrician until Oct. 1st.
I am giving her rice cereal per dr's orders.

Baby Colton is home! 7-02-09 replied: "wow. it sounds like you are doing all that you can..... when the baby sleeps do you have her at an incline? that might help."

Amy P replied: "why are you feeding her rice cereal?"

dmg replied: "She's gaining weight. Is she a generally happy enough baby? Then, don't worry about it.

My son was a spitter for the first six months of his life. We gave him normal formula (we did use the playtex drop-ins to reduce air, for what it's worth) and just dealt. I had a zip-up sweatshirt that I wore nearly all the time when holding him and washed almost daily.

I'm not sure what you can do besides wait it out and deal. We had some blanket/pad type things that we used in his stroller and bouncers so we didn't have to clean them all the time. We just got used to it and it eventually passed. We never gave him cereal in the bottle or anything like that.

All babies spit up. Formula-fed babies tend to spit up more. Some formula-fed babies spit up even more than that. If she isn't unhappy and is gaining weight, I'd stop screwing around trying to fix it and just wait until she grows out of it."

jenleeflem replied: "Try feeding her in little bursts at a time. If she drinks 4oz at a time, feed her one oz and then burp her. Then feed her another oz and burp her again. Try doing that until she is done with her bottle. If she is on 8oz, I would only burp her every 2oz. You might also want to try feeding her less at a time, but more often. Obviously, you want to make sure that you are using the bottles that give baby the least gas possible.

Hope that helps."

Shera replied: "Okay first of all I cannot believe that her formula has been changed so much. Changing formula in and of itself can upset a baby's fragile digestive system.

Secondly as long as she is gaining weight and growing properly then she is keeping down enough food to be healthy. So there is no need to rush her to the Dr. before her next scheduled appointment.

Make sure you burp her really well after each feeding. Sometimes spit up can be directly related to the baby swallowing air or having gas on the stomach. But some babies just spit up a lot. I have an uncle who spit up all the time. I forget what my grandma called it but he had trouble keeping food down until he was a toddler.

Doctors and nurses will not tell you this but when an infant gets constipated fixing it can be as simple as making sure you give them a few ounces of water everyday. Some babies need that. (medical personnel will tell you infants do not need water they get all they need from their food but my son needed the water and so did one of my nephews, no farther treatment was needed after that.)"

Will switching from breast milk to formula be to hard on my babys stomach? I just had a baby girl on January 23. I have been breast feeding her but I cant stand the pain and the constant milk flow. I have started her on formula and she seems to be crying more. Could this be hurting her stomach? I put her on Enfamil Gentlease Lipil for babies with fussiness or gas 0-12 monthes in powder form. Is this ok? Is there better formula out there for her?? Please help.........Im a first time mommy:)

Ethel replied: "Yup it will be hard on her stomach, it can make her sick. All formula are pretty equivalent in effect and nutrition, but at her age I was recommended when supplementing a newborn to give only premixed ready to use formula for the 1st month (he needed it only 2 weeks until I could match his nutritional needs with my milk).

Breastfeeding should not hurt, either she is latching on wrong or you have an infection - please see a lactation consultant at least and try to see if you can resolve the problems with nursing. The leaking for most of us stops around 3 months."

Stacia replied: "Could be hurting her tummy, could be that she just doesnt like it.

If you are still able to produce some milk, try doing half and half (Half breath milk and half formula for a little bit) and see if that doesnt help.

Be sure to burp her really good after each feeding. You can push her legs into her stomach or run them in a bycicle motion, often times that helps with gas. Get her som Gripe Water (Does wonders for a tummy ache!!!) Also, a warm bath can help with stomache aches and gas.

Hope that helps. If it continues, I would call or go see your Doctor and ask her what she recommends putting her on.

Good luck!!"

Tyff Taff replied: "formula is gross and yes it can mess up a babies stomach. Remember it is FAKE. Just to inform you some more. Because you JUST had a baby your still in the early stages of breast feeding. The milk flow slows down alot and the pain goes away after a few weeks and there is cream to help it."

jonahs mom replied: "you need to make the transition slowly, replacing 1 feeding at a time"

fool4love replied: "my daughter was born the same day and I did the same thing. I was breastfeeding but she had jaundice so I supplimented with enfamil lipil with iron and ended up stopping breastfeeding because when my milk came in it was just too much to bare. she is fine. she has been constipated but her pediatrician assured me its normal and she is fine... your baby might be gassy or constipated or she might not be eating enough. but as far as I am concerned the formula did not make her sick or fussy. (dont let anyone make you feel bad for stopping breastfeeding. its not for everyone and it is your body and your child) CONGRATULATIONS"

Samantha star replied: "need a picture of lucy from the peanuts swimming....i heard their was one with her and an innertube. i already have the underwater one...HELP!"

newmammy replied: "i think it might be hard on her stomach if you switched completely from breast to fomua milk.
breastmilk is easier to digest.
try to stick to the breastfeeding if you can, it is best for your baby.
try expressing a little milk after you feed her and rub it around the nipple, its better than any cream, also you could try to use nipple shields for a while until the pain goes.
well done and good luck"

Is there a difference between the ready made formula and the powdered formula within a brand.? I have been trying to find the right formula for my 6 week old... He has been very fussy, suffering from gas and I thing reflux. He first started on enfamil Lipil then switched to Gentlease and now Nutramigen... I started him on the ready made formula since i recieved free samples from the doctor... however, when I switched to the powdered type of each one, I noticed increase fussiness... is there a difference?

Jillian replied: "because the powdered kind gives more gass bubbles andd it is also in contact wiht more bacteria- ready amde is best of all but it's costly"

Dimples replied: "yes sometimes the powder can constipate some babies. it depends. some people find the powder convienient for thier sake because it doesnt spoil. the liquid however may be better for his little tummy to digest, but it spoils fast. it has to be used in 48 hours from the time you open the container."

baby_gurl replied: "My baby is 6 weeks old with reflux. my baby seems to be doing better with powder milk. Her doctor had me put rice cereal in the milk. It really does get allot of bubbles so I bought the Dr Browns bottles and they made all the diff. If you cant afford ready made you should give these bottles a try. kinda hard to clean but worth all the effort."

duffbitch replied: "my son was the same way and i switched him over myself to powder soy fornula.. the walmart brand//my dr assured me that that brand had the same nutrients and was just as good as the other leading brand and cost half as much.. so i began keeping him on that.. he loved it.. was not nearly as fussy and is now 7 and strong and healthy.. i rave to all who will listen the benefits of soy and the walmart version!!!
good luck"

Net Buddy replied: "Yes, there is a difference in the ingredients . . . for example, Alimentum powder contains corn-derived ingredients, but the Alimentum Ready-to-Feed does not (and is, in fact, the only formula on the market that does not contain corn)."

babybugs1980 replied: "Aside from the ingredients listed between ready to feed and powdered, the biggest difference is the water! Your tap water/boiled water/nursery water or whatever you use is different from the ready to use stuff. We found that using just plain old bottled water worked best for us. Discovered this by accident when we were camping and hubby left for awhile with all the boiled water still in the van and I had a hungry boy, I grabbed a bottle of water and mixed with that and he ate way more than usual and didn't have nearly the same gas issues. YMMV though."
