Enfamil Gentlease Lipil Liquid

formula question about enfamil gentlease powder formula? I usually use the liquid concentrate formula of enfamil lipil. I recently switched to the powder enfamil gentlease. i made 24 ounce batch in a container when the container was empty i noticed little like black dots is that normal in a powder formula? The container was clean and i used within 24 hrs after making it.

jedh replied: "I use the gentlease and I make batches in a container...but have never noticed any black dots. Are you sure it isn't the foam after being mixed. I use a hand mixer. After I mix the formula, I put it straight in the bottles...have never kept it in the container. I use it only for mixing."

can i change my babys formula? He is on enfamil gentlease. And he's been on that for about 2 weeks before that he was on enfamil lipil, well since he's been on this new stuff he hasn't had any poo that is hard. Its very liquid and even smells awful! Can I switch back to what he had at first? He's 4 weeks old.

samuel031008 replied: "I would call your doctor, and ask him and tell him about the bowel movements. I had to switch my son's and had to do a half/half when doing so, for one week."

Katy M replied: "The gentlease is a formula that does produce loose bowel movements. You should slow change if you are going to make a change only making 1/2 oz changes at a time or you will have a sick baby. Vomiting is a frequent symptom that you are changing too quickly.
Did you have a specific reason that you changed his formula, if so take that into account and definitely talk the pediatrician about any changes in formula."

Makenzie's Mom replied: "Pretty much all formula is the same, I would say yea go ahead and switch back and see if that changes anything. If not then call the doctor. Good luck"

My 4 week old? I woke up this morning to the WORST diaper EVER.It was green liquid like and had little yellow curds and it was everywhere, it exploded out of his diaper, onto his stomach, and back! I had to bathe him to get it off.
He is mostly breastfed with an occasional few ounces of formula....a few days ago we bought a different kind of formula (went from enfamil lipil to enfamil gentlease) and he came down with thrush so he has had a little more formula to eat than I would like (my nipples are killing me!)

I don't drink milk ( too expensive) and I haven't eaten a lot of dairy since he was born.maybe a yogurt or two....

so why did he have this massive explosion of diarrhea?? You think it is the formula? should I stop it?

(we are going to the doctors in 2 hours for the thrush so I will def. be asking the doctor but was just wondering what other moms thought)

Thank you!
My nipples are sore from the thrush....breastfeeding was great until he got thrush but now it is painful for him to eat and he pulls my breast, I am pumping to avoid unecessary nipple damag

pebblespro replied: "It's probably just the transition of the different formula.. If you plan on continuing to breastfeed it is importand that you take your prenatal vitamin and eat properly.. Afterall what you eats DOES affect the health and nutrition of your baby. If you don't like/drink milk try making yourself some smoothies to get calcium IF you do not get enough calcium the baby will "leach" it out of anywhere he/she can get it and eventually it may lead to tooth loss or bone density issues.... I like to make smoothies w/ yogurt/milk Carnation Instant breakfast is really good too.... If your nipples are sore you may not be breastfeeding properly and may need the help of a lactation consultant/group... Most hospitals have support groups that meet during the day/evening.. Call and see where yours meets.. It's also good for getting out of the house... Good luck"

ricky replied: "welcome to the great world on poop dipper this will not be your first or last dipper like this one lol i think you need to pick what you are doing to feed this little one i don't think you should feed the baby both breast milk and formula you may make the baby have a lot of gas . if you pick breastfeeding you need to eat right and take your vitams hope the baby feels better soon"

Lacems replied: "It sounds like its the transition from one formula to another so I suggest getting the old one back. You should also check to see if theres a fever. Thanks for painting the real picture of a baby with the runs... you worded it perfectly lol and I now know what to look for when I have my little baby, hope your baby is healthy."

*emma* replied: "awwwwww!
it's okay!
my son has done many of many many many poopies like that! its kind of scary but funny at the same time!
dont worry there will be plenty more to come hehehe"

motochic467 replied: "I have never given any of my three children formula and they had diaper explosions just like that. I wouldn't worry about it. It's obviously normal."

glbenner replied: "Make sure that BOTH of you are treated for the thrush, Do not let them just give you ointment for your breasts, make sure you get antibiotics.

Okay now to the dipper issue- if you just changed the formula it is probably a reaction. Babies digestive systems are very sensitive. That is one of the many reasons that breastfeeding is best. It is the perfect food for babies, easy to digest and 100% of the nutrition that they need.

Speak to your doctor about the formula, but also be aware that babies do have explosions from time to time without reason"

Rockmum replied: "diaper explosions are totally normal, my babies did them daily till i introduced solids at 6 mths
breastfeeding does it, cos it comes out so easy, when your on formula totally it gets harder to poop, even constipated!"

amy w replied: "Well make sure your dr gives you something for the thrush otherwise you will keep passing it back tothe baby and ues it as long as the dr says even if it seems better the diarrhea is probably from the thrush. Make sure you wash everything really good after the baby eats.O yeah and get "soothies" from the drug store they may have them at wal mart they are a gel breast pad they are a god send it will really help with the sore nipples REALLY worth the money"

ChantelleWilliams replied: "It sounds just like this tummy is getting adjusted to the new formula, also the blow out diaper, we always had that until I started using the pampers swaddlers diapers. even the huggies diapers always leaked"

Similac Aliementum formula...Please help!!? My daughter is a month old and we have tried almost EVERY formula out there. We put her on Enfamil Lipil, that made her have really bad gas and she was really fussy...never seemed satisfied after a feeding. She also had red bumps all over her body and dry skin. Then we put her on similac advantage, same thing happened. Then I put her on the Similac soy milk and she had really bad diarhea. Then the Doc. put her on enfamil gentlease and she broke out in red bumps all over her body and she had really dry skin. She also started to get constipated.

So, then I put her on Enfamil Prosobee. That has worked great EXCEPT now she is spitting up a lot, and she has ALL the symtoms of acid reflex. I put her down after a feeding and she cries. She burst out crying out of nowhere. She seems annoyed and irritated when she's eating (she acts hungry but when I go to feed her, she doesn't want it). She cries when I hold her in a cradle position but not when I hold her up over my shoulder.

So, we have figured out that she is lactose-intolerant. She has a very senstive stomache. But now, I believe she has acid reflex. She has all the symptoms

I put her on the Similac Aliementum liquid (ready to eat) kind around noon today and it's now 9pm at night. She just ate 4 oz. and threw it ALL up EVERYWHERE!! Now she acts fine and happy but hungry again.

Do you think she threw up from the formula and it's not working for her or do you think I should give it more time?
im not bf, dont want to and dont need anyones input on that
Mommy to a 2 yr. old girl----Regardless of what you have to say, I AM a good mom and I do know what is best for MY DAUGHTER. I would like to see you try to deal with her screaming fits for hours upon end in pain and see what you would do!! I can't stand to see him in pain, it breaks my heart. She is allergic to the other stuff...why would I keep her on that for longer when she's allergic to it!!??
Everyone says that changing formulas is bad but at the hospital, after I first had her, the nurses told me that we could use different formulas and we didn't have to stick to just one. But, I guess she was wrong and I will give this Similac Aliementum 2 weeks to see improvement. I really hope it works
Because I don't really know for sure if she is lactose intolerant......
I wasn't trying to be mean, I'm sorry. I just assumed you were calling me a bad mom. Thank you for your help though, I will keep her on this and stop switching it. Im sorry again

Josephine replied: "formula itself is very harsh on babies digestive systems. have you tried nursing?"

D.d. :) replied: "ask a doctor and dont try anything else until u find out from a doctor what's wrong and what's best for her"

Mom of Ethan and Sophie replied: "I don't want to sound mean, but changing formula that often is really bad for the baby's digestive tract.... told to me by a pediatric gastroenterologist. Stop changing formulas and get a referral to a pediatric gastro as soon as you can. Pediatrician's are great about a lot of "general" things, but specialists are EXCELLENT about certain things. If she's had this much trouble, I really would take her to a specialist and get it figured out, no more guessing at what's wrong with her. I would call your ped. in the morning and tell them what's going on and see if they will get you into a specialist right away.

Good luck!"

Hannah's mommy replied: "First of all, Alimentum is not for Lactose intolerance, it is for milk PROTEIN sensitivity.

If you *think* she is lactose intolerant, she needs to be on lactose free formula.

She is probably having problems because you keep switching her formula's over and over again and not giving her tummy time to heal and adjust.

When my daughter went on Alimentum for protien sensitivity our GI doctor said it takes up to 2 weeks for their tummies to adjust and heal.

Are you under a doctor's advice for this or just doing this all on your own? You need to stick to a formula for a bit."

Mommy to a 2yr old replied: "Like I told you last time you asked this question before you switched again! You can't change her formula this many times in a month!! I feel like I have no choice but to be mean now. You are not letting her body adjust to each formula. You assume it's the formula that is not working when really she just can't adjust because you have switched her formula 5 times now in just one month! It's very hard on a newborns digestive system to keep switching formulas. Like I said before she needs at least 2 weeks to adjust to the new formula! Please stop switching her formula so much, you are just making her suffer more! If she's lactose intolerant then you need to put her on a lactose free formula and stick to it for 2 weeks and see if it helps. Alimentum is not going to help her if she's lactose intolerant.

Edit - I NEVER accused you of being a bad mother! It just doesn't make since to me why you would give her all these formulas when you know she's lactose intolerant, why don't you put her on a lactose free formula to help her? I have dealt with a baby who was in pain and would scream. My daughter had acid reflux when she was a baby and it was not pleasant at all. I know what you're going through with a screaming baby. Stop assuming!
I am done.. I tried helping and get accused of calling you a bad mother."

Monica H replied: "Should've gone with the Enfamil ;)
If it is indeed acid reflux, then she'll have problems digesting any type of formula. Stick w/ whichever formula has worked best for her thus far and try giving her only 2oz at a time, burp her, then 2oz until she's full.
I do agree that switching formulas so frequently isn't a good idea, and you should definitely seek help from a gastroenterologist if she continues not being able to hold anything down as it could effect her growth and make her dehydrated (which can be very serious in small babies).
If she is showing signs of dehydration give her a little pedialyte in a bottle (it will also be helpful to see if she spits this up also or if it's just the formula). Overall, get to a GOOD pediatrician asap! Good luck, I really do hope you get everything figured out!

**I'd stick with the soy. Aliementum is milk based so if she's lactose intolerant or has a milk allergy it can still be problematic for her.
There's no need for anyone on here to be "mean". I've dealt w/ a screaming child and felt like I was going to LOSE it. People ask questions because they need helpful advice and a bit of comforting, I'm sure if a pediatrician was at her disposal she would be asking one!"

Jess is a mommy replied: "mommy to a 2 year old is right, just stick with one for a while....or better yet BREASTFEED!"

Paityn Alexis is here! 6lbs 8oz replied: "It would take more then just one bottle for the formula to start working. I would try it for at least 24-48hours and i deff would only switch formulas if my doctor reccomended it. Switching to all these different formulas in such a short period of time could be hurting her belly etc. Are you burping her after every ounce??? Maybe try some gas drops as well...alot of babies get gas. If all else fails she may very well have reflux...my first child did and had to be put on zantac. I also was told by my doctor to add a tad bit of rice cereal to my sons bottles and i actually think thats what stopped him from throwing up..not the zantac. My son was also on similac isomil advance formula. Goodluck my father in law has a baby 3wks younger then my 11wk old and they are just went through everything your going through but their daughter is on the lactose-intolerant formula now and doing well."

photocritter replied: "*** My 10 week old baby boy had those same symptoms - we went through about 7 different formulas, Allimentum was the last resort - or so we thought. It turned out he had a milk protien allergy and we didn't know it. We didn't think a child could be so unhappy and fussy - he was put on Neocate formula (Rx only) and he is now a different child.

Please ask your doctor about a milk allergy. I wish we would have checked into it earlier, it would have saved our baby so much misery and pain.

Also, everyone says not to switch formula so much, you follow what you think is best, my doctor said, had we not switched our sons formula like we did, she would have not determined it was a milk allergy. ONLY YOU know your child. true, it takes about a week for a formula to get results, but with a milk allergy, you see a rejection in a matter of feedings, or atleast we did.

Also, try gripe water, found at most drug stores, while it won't cure him, it will ease him off some (or it did mine)

Please call your doctor tomorrow.

Best of luck!"

Erin P replied: "My son is six weeks old and has mild acid reflux. He started out on Similac Advance, then we tried Similac isomil (HORRIBLE poop and gas!), then back to the advance. He was also spitting up regularly. He is now on Good Start Gentle Plus and the spit up has reduced considerably and his gas is a lot milder than it was.

When we feed him we sit him as upright as possible, burp him after every ounce (he's up to 4), then sit him upright for 20-30 min. after he finishes the bottle. This seems like a lot of work, but it has cut down on the spit up. If he starts the spit up and gassiness again, I want to try the alimentum."

Does liquid formula satisfy babies hunger better than powder? I was using Enfamil Lipil with Iron in the concentrate when my baby's doctor said that she has acid reflux and put her on Zantac along with giving us samples of Enfamil Prosobee concentrate. Well she got horribly constipated with the Prosobee formula so we tried the Gentlease type but it is only available in powder. She seemed so hungry with that and was still spitting up quite a bit. So we tried the A.R. formula and she is still quite hungry. Both the Gentlease and A.R. is in powder because that is what WIC will cover. Should I switch back to the regular Enfamil Lipil with Iron concentrate as it seemed to fill her up better or is there another concentrate from Enfamil that I could try that will help? Please help me! I hate seeing my baby like this and want her to be happy when she feeds! Thank you!

Ryan's mom replied: "Have you tried soy formula? My son had severe acid reflux due to being a preemie. He did best with the soy. He used to projectile vomit 2-3 times a day. About 3 days after switching to soy he rarely spit up at all."

Ree replied: "One: liquid ready to feed works best for reflux babies because it is thicker. We can not use powder at all in any of the brands, it makes the refluxing worse.

Two: If the pediatrician writes medically required WIC in my state will give RTF(ready to feed). We get WIC as well.

I have heard lots of great stuff about AR but my pediatrician stands behind alimentum (which my reflux daughter loves) and nutramagin(which she wont drink!)

We are also on Zantac and it works for us, one other thing that is important with Refluxers, keep her elevated for at least 30 minutes after a feeding and burp alot. Like every ounce!

Good Luck!"

turklelove replied: "my baby uses similac alimentum. it is supposed to be very gentle and easily digested. it is marketed for babies with food allergies and collic. i havent noticed a difference in how satisfied my baby is between the ready made or the powder. i am on wic and they cover both types.
i have heard bad things about soy formula, id check it out first before using it."

Karo Syrup, Nutramigen, Spit uppy baby..HELP PLEASE!!!? My baby is a spitter upper!(She'll be 6 weeks on Monday) The pediatrician gave her liquid Zantac a couple weeks ago, didn't work..We just got an ultrasound done of her belly to look for that medical problem that requires surgery, she's fine..I'm breast feeding but had to start supplementing on formula because I can't produce enough to fit her feeding needs. She was on Enfamil Lipil and then switched to Gentlease..NOw the doc told me to put her on Nutramigen..She is STILL SPITTIng evrything up..Sometimes she doesn't at all-but most the time does..I will give her another week to get used to the Nutramigen-how much Karo Syrup can I put in there to make it taste better for her? And what else does Karo Syrup help with? Thanks for all answers!!

momtojullex replied: "You shouldn't be putting sugar in your baby's formula. It's not healthy.

Do you mind if I ask why you think you weren't making enough milk for her? I'm not being a breastfeeding nazi- I'm just trying to help you out on that front. I suspect that you might have been making enough, but you got the thought in your head that it's possible you weren't making enough and you believed it. If you were nursing on demand, you were making enough milk."

Melissa S replied: "I wouldn't add any karo syrup, they are finding it has some ill effects. I took my son to the chiropractor for acid reflux, it took a few visits but it worked. You can also see if the doctor will prescribe Prevacid instead of Zantac. I am allergic to it so my doctor didn't want to chance my son being allergic too and the Zantac didn't work well for us either.
"

Tylers mom replied: "My son started spitting up when he was about 6 wks old. He was also put on meds and he still spits up. The meds will not help with that. The valve to a baby's stomach is weak and this is why some will come back up through it. The meds help control the acid in baby's stomach so it doesn't hurt as much when they do spit. Our ped told us if he's a spitter then he can and probably will do so until he's about a year old. If your baby doesn't seem uncomfortable when feeding or spitting then I suspect everything is good.
I've never heard of putting anything in the formula to make it taste better. The ped put us on Alimentum (same family as Nutramigen) and said it will probably taste terrible for him but if he's hungry he'll eat it. And he does. It's tempting to want to find something that we think will taste better for them but realistically at this age they don't have much to compare to and they'll eat it when they are hungry. You didn't mention if the Karo was suggested by your doc or not but I'd only go with that on the advice of the doctor.
good luck! i know exactly the challenge you are going through:) everything is a stage right now and will get better."
